RECOUNT TEXT

Cool ! when I’m cleaning my bedroom that look like a cracky-ship,I found some old things that before I thought it has lost !! one of them was special !! did you know what I mean ? hmm I’ll tell it. It was a diary book, very beautiful diary ! My old best friend has given it 4 years ago. Waw,it’s a long time to know this book still fine before :D

Okay, now, what is my problem with that diary ? yeah when I read and open that diary,I’ve just remembered if that book still EMPTY with words -_- how lazy I am .ckck
I’m very confused,I dunno what I must write on my diary. Next day in school,I tell about it to my friend, she said if why I didn’t write about my experiences during 4 years after I’ve lost that diary . afterthat I got many ideas from her said. Buuuuuuuuuuuuut AGAIN,at my home,I’m still confused about how I write my experiences on my beloved diary. Then I ask about that with.....a shaman ? hell yeah,it’s impossible -_- okay exactly I ask to Mr. Google :D
I write a key word = ‘how to write an experience’ then..eureka ! there’s a word that will bring me to heaven.oh NO ! not die, please.but Recount text ! That’s the answer of my confusion 
here are the explanation about recount text !

A kind of text to tell the reader a past event or experience in chronological order is called ‘Recount Text’. That’s why,it uses simple past tense.
The generic structure of recount text :
• Orientation : tells the reader who was involved in the story, what happened, where the story took place, and when it happened.
• Events : Tell the sequence of events
• Re-orientation : summarises the event. It may be contains some personal comments.
There are three types of recount text :
- Imaginative recount : is an unreal event or story, like reading texts for language lesson,a story about a life of a slave, etc.
- Factual recount : is a note of an event,such as scientific experiment report,police report,newspaper report,history explanation,etc.
- Personal Recount : exposes an event in which the writer or the author got involved or acted in the event himself. Belong to this type among others are daily funny incidents, entries of a diary, etc.
Example of recount text :

What is the relation between recount text and narrative text ?
Something which happened in the past is the main resource to compose both recount and narrative text. In writer’s point of view, the things is an experience. It can be what the writer has done, hear, read, and felt. Composing recount and narrative is retelling the experiences of the past event to be a present event.
What does recount differ from narrative ?
The easiest way to catch the difference is analyzing the generic structure. Recount text presents the past experiences in order of time or place;what happened on Sunday, then on Monday. In simple way, recount describes series of events in detail. It doesn’t expose the struggle on how to make them happen. The event happened smoothly. On the other hand, narrative introduces crises and how to solve them. Narrative text always appear as a hard potrait of participant’s past experience. It reveals the conflict among the participants. Cinderella’s conflicts with her step mother and sister are the example. The conflict is the most important element in a narrative text. Narrative without conflicts isn’t narrative any more.
Example of Recount text :
My Day at the Beach

Last week my friend and I were bored after three weeks of holidays, so we rode our bikes to Smith Beach, which is only five kilometres from where I live. When we arrived at the beach, we were surprised to see there was hardly anyone there.
After having a quick dip in the ocean, which was really cold, we realized one reason there were not many people there. It was also quite windy. After we bought some hot chips at the takeaway store nearby, we rode our bikes down the beach for a while, on the hard, damp part of the sand. We had the wind behind us and, before we knew it, we were many miles down the beach.
Before we made the long trip back, we decided to paddle our feet in the water for a while, and then sit down for a rest. While we were sitting on the beach, just chatting, it suddenly dawned on us that all the way back, we would be riding into the strong wind.
When we finally made it back home, we were both totally exhausted! But we learned some good lessons that day.

OOOOOOH ‘in fact just like this.. JUST I’ve said eh written ?! on few minutes ago I’ve very desperated. And now after read that,I’ve understood .It’s very easy, isn’t it ? So,I can make it by myself now. And how about you ? let we make it too ! Happy writing 

Ouuuuh ! a beautiful memories ! so many memories about kid moment that make we want to be a kid again. But,now we’ll not discuss about your kid memories,we’ll discuss about narrative text ! Do you now narrative text ?

Narrative text is a text which contain about story such as fiction, tales, folktales, fables, myths, epic and its plot consists of climax of the story (complication) then followed by the resolution.

What is purpose of narrative text ?
The basic purpose of narrative text is to entertain,to gain and hold a readers’ interest. However narratives can also be written to teach or inform,to change attitudes/social opinions e.g. soap operas and television dramas that are used to raise topical issues.
Narrative sequence people/characters in time and place but differ from recounts in that through the sequencing, the stories set up one or more problems, which must eventually find a way to be resolved.

The common structure or basic plan of narrative text is known as the “story grammar” . Although there are numerous variations of the story grammar, the typical elements are :
 Setting : when and when the story occurs
 Characters : the most important people or players in the story
 Initiating events : an action or occurence that establishes a problem and/or goal
 Conflict/goal : the focal point around which the whole story is organized
 Events : one or more attempts by the main character(s) to achieve the goal or solve the problem
 Resolution : the outcome of the attempts to achieve the goal or solve the problem
 Theme : the main idea or moral of the story
The graphic representation of these story grammar elements is called a story map. The exact form and complexity of a map depends,of course, upon the unique structure of each narrative and the personal preference of the teacher constructing the map.

There are many types of narrative. They can be imaginary, factual or a combination of both. They may include fairy stories, mysteries, science fiction, romances, horror stories, adventure stories, fable, myths and legends, historical narratives, ballads, slice of life.

Features : characters with defined personalities/identities
Dialogue : often included –tense may change to the present or the future
Descriptive language : to create images in the readers’ mind and enhance the story

The generic structure :

Orientation : it sets the scene and introduces the participants (it answer the questions; Who,What,When, and Where)
• Complication : a crisis or a problem arises. It usually involves the main character(s) ( often mirroring the complications in real life)
• Resolution : a solution to the problem. Main characters find a way to solve the problem. The complication may be resolved for better or worse/ happily or unhappily.
But sometimes in several certainty of narrative text, there are other generic structure as complement, such as :
• Evaluation : (optional) a step back to evaluate the plight ( the narrator’s viewpoint) commonly before resolution.
• Coda : (optional) changes of the characters or lesson/value of the story.

Characteristic of narrative text :

  • use of noun phrases ( a beautiful princess,a huge temple)
  • use of connectives (first,beforethat,afterthat,then,finally,while)
  • use of adverbial phrases of time and place ( in the garden, two days ago)
  • use of simple past tense but in dialogue may change to the present or the future ( he walked away from the village )
  • use of action verbs ( walk,sleep,eat )
  • use of saying verbs (say, tell, ask)
  • use of thinking verbs, feeling verbs, verbs of sense ( She felt hungry, She thought,She was clever)

here are the example of narrative text :

The Smartest Parrot
Once upon time, a man had a wonderful parrot. There was no other parrot like it. The parrot could say every word, except one word. The parrot would not say the name of the place where it was born. The name of the place was Catano.
The man felt excited having the smartest parrot but he could not understand why the parrot would not say Catano. The man tried to teach the bird to say Catano however the bird kept not saying the word.
At the first, the man was very nice to the bird but then he got very angry. “You stupid bird!” pointed the man to the parrot. “Why can’t you say the word? Say Catano! Or I will kill you” the man said angrily. Although he tried hard to teach, the parrot would not say it. Then the man got so angry and shouted to the bird over and over; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”. The bird kept not to say the word of Catano.
One day, after he had been trying so many times to make the bird say Catano, the man really got very angry. He could not bear it. He picked the parrot and threw it into the chicken house. There were four old chickens for next dinner “You are as stupid as the chickens. Just stay with them” Said the man angrily. Then he continued to humble; “You know, I will cut the chicken for my meal. Next it will be your turn, I will eat you too, stupid parrot”. After that he left the chicken house.
The next day, the man came back to the chicken house. He opened the door and was very surprised. He could not believe what he saw at the chicken house. There were three death chickens on the floor. At the moment, the parrot was standing proudly and screaming at the last old chicken; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”.

There are two types of invitation :
• Informal invitation : personal invitation given to a friend, family, etc. Can be written invitation and verbal invitation.
• Formal invitation : usually originate from Companies, Institutes, and a kind of it. Normally in written/printed invitation.

First , How to invite.
Have you ever invited someone to join/do something ?
Of course, you have although how small it is. For example maybe in daily life you invite your friend to do homework together,to accompany you to a place like rest room, canteen, and etc. That’s all include Invitation, exactly informal invitation. Now I’ll give the example of ‘How to invite’ again, there are :
• Come join us at djarum’s scholarship!
• Would you please attend to my party tonight ?
• How about see ATL concert tomorrow ?
• Will you see Slash concert in Surabaya ?
And many more...
Well, from many of example that I’ve given ,you can make your own invitation, then practice to your friend of family.

Second , about ‘How to accept an invitation’
I’ll give you some examples about some expression to accept an invitation.
They are :
-          Great ! let’s do it
-          Thanks. I’d like to.
-          Wow,that;s good idea !
-          That would be very nice
-          Okay. I’ll be there
-          Why not ? I’d love to.

Third ,that’s about ‘How to refuse an invitation’. I’ll give you some example as your reference.
 Sorry, I can’t. I’m busy right now.
 Thank you,but I think I can’t make it.
 That’s very kind of you,but unfortunately I’ll have miss it.
And many more..
You can add another reason,be creative ! but don’t be a big fat liar 
Moral value : from invitation,we learn to appreciate an invitation from someone although how small it is 
That’s all a bit about invitation from me. Thank you and keep reading guys ! next I’ll explain another lesson that no less fun than now. Bye !

Okay, from now start to practice this lesson into your daily life. Greet other people but please be wise to use informal and formal greeting depend who the people that you’ll greet and don’t forget too, always smile when you greet other people.
Second, How do you introduce yourself ?
This lesson very important when you’re be a new student in a school. Why ? because if they all not know you, you’ll be like a ghost in the school ! kidding yeah ! simple answer, you can’t get new friends. I’ve used this lesson too in this blog (read ‘a bit about me’) yes I’ve introduced my self to you before, right ?
There are some example about introduce your self, cekidot !
You can say :
ð  I’ll introduce my self. My name is..
ð  Hello. My name is..
ð  Let me introduce my self. You can call me.. I’m from..

I’ll give an example in dialogue form too about introduce your self,so good me to you :D
in this moment it’s about a new student in a school.
Teacher              : Pupils, today we’ve just get a new a student in this class. She’ll introduce herself.
New Student     : Good Morning,Mam. Good Morning,Friends. Let me introduce my self. My name is Sukowati Stewart. You can call me Wati. I come from Denpasar. I moved here because I’ve bored in Denpasar. I hope you all want to be my friends and help to adaption in here. Thank you for  your attention.
*That’s all just one example, still many more again in your daily life. But one point that you must remember, what about you’ll tell to other people when you introduce yourself its depend from the how much  formal and informal that situation. In formal event like seminar maybe you’ll not tell about your hobby.

Third , How do you introduce other people ?
In this lesson it same like above, but the different is ‘what is your task’. In here, you’re a person who ‘open’ conversation to let your friend introduce his/herself. There are the example :
ð  Please meet my classmate, Rebecca.
ð  Mom.this is David. David, this is my mom.
ð  Janet-Riko. Riko-Janet
In a dialogue :
Joko       : Hello everybody. Let me introduce my new classmate,Woro. He’s from Japan.
Woro     : Nice to meet you all .

And the last lesson is about How do you close/end your conversation
In a conversation,of course there’s an end,its called ‘Leave-talking’. Impossible if you’ll talk to your friends until hours, days, weeks, months,or years without stop or rest time. So cool your mouth if you can do it ! because of that,so I write about that in here. Lets cekidot guys J
You can say :
ð  Sorry. I’ve something to do. Bye
ð  I’m sorry. I must go now.
ð  Well. It’s time for me to leave. See you
ð  See you later/tomorrow/next time/around

Hey how do your feel when you greet other people but he/she not give you a respond ? or the opposite ? So dissapointed, ckck.
If someone greets you,you must respond it. For example :
ð  Hello too,hi too
ð  Morning too
ð  How do you do ?
There are two kinds of respond, positive respond and negative. Here are the example of them :
Positive respond
ð  Fine,thanks. And you ?
ð  Not bad at all
ð  I’m very well,thank you. How about you ?

 Negative respond

è Not very well, I guess
è I’m not okay now

When someone introduces him/herself or other people, you can respond like example :
ð  Pleased/nice meet you too/Glad to see you
ð  How do you do ?
ð  Hi....I’m.... (we introduce ourself too)
ð  Nice/cool name !
When someone close your conversation, you can give respond :
ð  Okay,see you too
ð  Sure. Bye-bye too
ð  Never mind. See you
If someone greets you,you must respond it then say ‘Thanks’ because you’ve gotten a care.
